A Message from the Mayor . . . June 2012

SPORTS COMPLEX:
We continue to move forward with the planned sports complex for Greenwood. I have held three (3) informational meetings to inform the pubic of this exciting project. One of the first things we need to do is create a Greenwood Athletic Association to set the policies, rules, regulations, etc. Thus far we have three (3) members. If you would like to be a part of this association and/or help in anyway for the success of this project, please call me or Mayor Frank at 938-7647.

AWARD: I am happy to report that Greenwood received a $25,000 grant from the Louisiana Government Assistance Program. The money will be used to purchase 143 Infinity water meters. The town will have over 500 new meters with this grant. We are currently replacing old meters that have exceeded their shelf life. We also received a second grant in April 2012 of $210,000 to install 5600LF of water main from Hwy 169/Shirley Francis Road to Kimberly Road. This loop will provide improved water quality and water pressure.

FARMERS MARKET: The 4th Annual Greenwood Farmers Market started Saturday, June 2. It will run through August, every Saturday from 8 a.m. - Noon. Come out and get home grown produce and vegetables. The market is located at William Peters Town Park in downtown Greenwood. The market is off to a good start with more vendors than we have ever had. Hope to see you there.

American Municipal Services: The Town has contracted with AMS to perform collection services where a party or entity owes monies to the Town of Greenwood. AMS will deduct a fee of 25% of the amount collected on delinquent utility bills and court costs. As of May 1 though June 13, 2012, the total net amount paid to Greenwood is $10,860. If you owe money to Greenwood, I suggest you make amends as it will cost more in the long run.

NEW MAYOR: This will be my last Mayor's Report since my term expires June 30, 2012. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as your mayor for the last four (4) years. I thank you for your support. One of the rewards of being mayor is meeting and greeting the residents in our town. Greenwood is a great place to live and raise a family. The future is ripe for growth and new business. Frank Stawasz, owner of Time and Chime in Greenwood, is the new mayor. I ask you to support him and the Board of Alderman as they embark on the next four years.

MEETINGS: If you want to know what is going on in your town, attend the monthly meetings. This is your time to participate in good government. You should have received a meeting notice in the mail as to date and times. If not, call 938-7261.

KEEP GREENWOOD GREEN
