A Message from the Mayor . . . February 2012

APPORTIONMENT PLAN:
The plan was approved by the Department of Justice in December 2011. As a result, the district and your representative may have changed. This was due to a 31% growth in population from 2000-2010. The council district map should be on the website shortly.

ELECTED OFFICIALS: On June 30, 2012, the terms for the current elected officials will expire. Qualifying for the new officials began on December 7-9, with the following results: MAYOR - FRANK STAWASZ (no opposition/new)
DISTRICT 1 - Alderman Gary Cook (no opposition/retains seat)
DISTRICT 2 - Alderman Jewel Jaudon (no opposition/new)
DISTRICT 3 - Alderman Thomas Newsom (no opposition/new)
DISTRICT 4 - Alderman Brad Edwardes (no opposition/retains seat)
Alderman at Large - Election will be 3/24/2012. Linda Paine and Travis McCracken are the two candidates. Length of term is July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2016.

TRAIN SPEED CHANGE: Beginning February 17, 2012, the head-end restriction speed at the LA511 (ANA 70th St.) crossing will increase from 25mph to 50mph. On that date, the speed will increase 5mph each week until the new speed limit is reached.

SPORTS COMPLEX: The master plan for a proposed sports complex was completed in January 2012. An overview of the plan was presented to the Board on Feb. 9. This is a multi-year project as funding becomes available and budgeted. A public hearing will be scheduled in the future for Greenwood residents' input and support.

ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES: Earn your High School Equivalency Diploma (GED) or upgrade reading, language arts, and math skills at the Higgenbothem-Bryson Library in Greenwood. Times are 1-3pm (Mondays) and 5-7pm (Wednesdays). For more information, call 424-3417.
